DB Will not Grow
I have read the problem when the file can not grow fast enough to keep up and I agree with you that does not seem to be the problem. If that was the case I should still be able to grow the file manually with Enterprise manager or Alter Database command. When I try to change the file size in Enterprise manager it acts like it changes it but if I change it press OK then open it back up it is set back to what it was previously, and puts the following error in the SQL error logs:
Source spid65
fcb::ZeroFile(): GetOverLappedResult() failed with error 2.
The same error happens in the SQL error logs when running the Alter Database command even though it says it completed successfully it never changes the size.
I do think this error is the source of my problem but I can find it no where on the web, on Microsofts site, in this or any other message boards even. Either I have something set up very wrong or I found a new bug.
The real thing that gets me is that the transaction log grows just fine but the data file will not. Although if I try to shrink the transaction log file it will not shrink, which maybe related to this or it could be its own problem.
I have tried to set it to grow in MB rather than % I agree this should be the way it is always done, but that does not seem to help either.Try to capture the events using PROFILER during this process.
And refer to this KBA (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;Q305635) for more information.|||Is this a clustered system? We are seeing the same problem after failing over our cluster, running SQL 2000 Enterprise w SP2. Prior to the failover last week, when our server guys installed some new OS patches, everything was normal. I added a second data file on the Primary filegroup as a short-term measure, but I'm going to call MS soon if I can't figure it out.
Thanks,
James

DB Security vs. Application
So are choices are to uninstall SQL Enterprise Manager and SQL Query Analyzer, or more preferably, alter their NT Permissions so that they do not have the capability to change anything in the DB's.
My concern is that it seems we can only set their permissions from DB level and not the application, does that sound correct? Has anyone else had to deal with this predicament and is there an alternative to uninstalling the SQL Client tools?Look into Application Roles topic in BOL, maybe you can specify this source control app as the only app with required permissions, and modify your connection object within the app to use this role. At the same time you revoke all permissions from all individual users in question.
DB security on shared ISP server - Newbie
connect to the remote server I use the 'export data/import data'
wizards in Enterprise Manager, logging in with a user ID and password.
When I connect I get a list of all the databases on the server. Is
there anything to stop another user importing my db via Enterprise
Manager? And once they have downloaded it, can they open it easily?
Will SQL server detect an attempt to download a db by anyone other
than the authorised user?SkyBlue (aajjww@.postmaster.co.uk) writes:

If you from Query Analyzer perform "sp_helpuser" you can see which users
you have in your database, and which SQL Server logins they map to.
Those logins are the ones that can access your database. Those, and the
logins that are member of server roles with stronger permissions.
On a shared server like the one you are own, database owners should
not have any server-wide permissions, nor be granted access to someone
else's database. But to verify that this is the case, you would have to
ask the admin of the server.
The fact that you cna see other users' databases is not any indication
that you have too much privleges.

DB Role Security
My mananger has asked me to see if it possible to allow
developers the rights to modify table structures only, and
not create, delete tables, and not create, modify and
delete views store procedures.
I am going to tell him "No" as I will need to give the
developers dlladmin access rights which allows full object
modification rights.
What do people think ?
PeterYou are partially right - you can grant the "Create Table" permission only,
which includes Alter and Drop Table permissions, but does not include
permissions to create, alter or drop views, functions and procedures.
