DB2 linked server issues

I have a DB2 linked server using DB2OLEDB from MS. the DB2 table does not have journaling enabled, so all of my data creation and update statements are failing when using OpenQuery. Is there a way to get my data mod statements to execute on DB2 without requiring journaling? I have tried using ODBC and setting the Commit Level to none, but it appears that SQL server overrides that setting when connecting through the Linked Server. Any ideas?

Have you tried using

a Control Panel ODBC System DSN entry as your data source? This old school

connection technique fixed my numerous db2 linked server problems. I suspect

there is a bug in the IBM drivers that goes away when you configure the

connection like this.

It should also fix

your settings override problem and give you access to even more settings to tinker

with!

Thanks,
Greg Van Mullem

we have tried using an ODBC DSN as the source for the Linked Server, but it still has the same problems. Somehow SQL Server seems to force the "transaction log/journaling" upon the ODBC source as well.

|||If you are running the Developer or Enterprise Edition

of SQL Server you could try this feature pack download from Microsoft.

Unfortunately, it does not work with SQL Standard Edition so I have not

been able to try it.

Microsoft

OLEDB Provider for DB2

Thanks,
Greg Van Mullem|||Have you tried the new EXEC AT syntax with linked server in SQL Server 2005?

DB Process Is Dead Or Not Enabled

We are running a vendor application, and during certain times during
the day we are getting a DB Process Is Dead Or Not Enabled. This is a
SQL Server 2000 database with SP4. The application needs to be shut
down and restarted or the PC needs to be rebooted to get the
application functioning again. The vendor is pointing toward a
Hardware or Network issue. I had a Network Admin check the switches,
ports, and ethernet cards and no problems found. Does anyone have any
ideals on where to look to troubleshoot in SQL Server? Any good
monitoring tools to help troubleshoot this issue? Any help would be
great!I think we need a bit more information here.

The following error message:
DB Error Code: 10005
Error Message: Select error: DBPROCESS is dead or not enabled.
Any ideas on this message?
Does anyone know of a monitoring tool that would monitor the
connection to SQL Server?|||There are a alot of error message 10005 entries on support.microsoft.com,
but not sure that any apply to SQL2K, sp4. Lots of stuff on DCOM issues,
and some SQL7 problems. Perhaps you need to give MS a call? Maybe you
found a new issue.

DB mail fails with permission error

Hi:

I am trying to send mail using DB Mail. I made sure that there is a mail box setup for the service account and the service broker is enabled in the msdb database. Also I made the service account a user in the msdb and added him to the mail role as specified in BOL. However I consistently end up with the following error message when I try to send the mail.

Log ID 19
Process ID 5672
Mail Item ID 6
Last Modified 4/26/2006 11:05:00 AM
Last Modified By sa

Message
The mail could not be sent to the recipients because of the mail server failure. (Sending Mail using Account 1 (2006-04-26T11:05:00). Exception Message: Cannot send mails to mail server. (Client does not have permission to submit mail to this server. The server response was: 5.7.3 Client does not have permission to Send As this sender.).
)

I am at loss to understand what Permissions it still needs?. Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks

I have resolved this problem successfully and want to share it with the community for the benefit of others.

when the above error happens, please make sure that you have the following in place.

1). The Service account should have a mail box setup.

2). The account name you use when you configure DB Mail should be the same as that of the Mail box name.

3). The Account should be a user in the msdb and should be added to the DBMailuser role.

Everything then should work fine.

Thanks

DB Mail config

I am trying to setup db mail and I cannot get it to send an email. I have
enabled e-mail using the surface area configurator. I went through the db
mail setup wizard and entered all the appropiate info, but when I try to
send a test email, I get the following error in the db mail log:
The mail could not be sent to the recipients because of the mail server
failure. (Sending Mail using Account 3 (2006-09-14T09:27:22). Exception
Message: Cannot send mails to mail server. (Failure sending mail.).
).
What could be causing this?
Thanks,What type of server are you using for Mail. Some SMTP server? Does the db
mail account have access to relay on the SMTP server. Can you ping the SMTP
server from the SQL server?
What does the event log say as far as DB mail errors?
