DB2OLEDB and Linked Servers

Has anyone had any success with linked servers and DB2. My DB2 knowledge is
very limited.
EXEC sp_addlinkedserver
@.server = 'SERVERR2',
@.srvproduct = 'Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2',
@.provider = 'DB2OLEDB',
@.provstr='Network Transport Library=TCPIP;Network Address=10.73.102.115;User
ID=myuser;Password=mypassword;'
OLE DB provider "DB2OLEDB" for linked server "SERVERR2" returned message
"The parameter is incorrect.".
Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "DB2OLEDB" for linked server "SERVERR2" reported an
error. One or more arguments were reported invalid by the provider.
Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "DB2OLEDB" for
linked server "SERVERR2".
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

Hi Andrew,
Welcome to use MSDN Managed Newsgroup Support!
From your description, my understanding of this issue is: When you use the
sp_addlinkedserver
to add a DB2 Server, you got the following error message:
OLE DB provider "DB2OLEDB" for linked server "SERVERR2" returned message
"The parameter is incorrect.".
If i misunderstood your concern, please feel free to point it out.
According to the error message, you may re-configure the provider string.
Here is the sample from SQL Server 2000 Books online:
Use the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2
This example creates a linked server named DB2 that uses the Microsoft OLE
DB Provider for DB2.
EXEC sp_addlinkedserver
@.server='DB2',
@.srvproduct='Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2',
@.catalog='DB2',
@.provider='DB2OLEDB',
@.provstr='Initial Catalog=PUBS;Data Source=DB2;HostCCSID=1252;Network
Address=XYZ;Network Port=50000;Package Collection=admin;Default
Schema=admin;'
Also, you can find more details in this article:
INF: Configuring Data Sources for the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/218590
You can create a Microsoft data link file (UDL) and test whether you can
connected to DB2 Server successfully.
1. Create a Text file named TestConnection.txt
2. Modify the file named to TestConnection.udl and click Yes in the
Rename dialog box.
3. Double click the TestConnection.udl file and you can follow the
article above to test the connection.
Hope this will be helpful! Thank you for your patient. If there are further
questions on the issue, please feel free to let us know. Have a great day!

DB2 OLEdb for linked server on SQL 2005 Express

Hi!
We use a SQL Server 2005 Express to link some other SQL Servers and
some Oracle servers together, to simplify our work.
Now I wanted to link in a IBM DB2 running on a AS400.
I downloaded the DB2OLEDB driver from Microsoft:
Microsoft OLEDB Provider for DB2 (DB2OLEDB.exe)
from the "Feature Pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2005"
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...&DisplayLang=en
But that only works with the Enterprise or Developer edition.
Is there any DB2OLEDB driver for SQL 2005 Express?

You're not the first person to hit this problem. Unfortunately there is
no way that you can use an MS DB2 driver with anything other than these
editions. You're only option is to download IBM's driver.

Thanks for the advice.
I got it earlier from the german sqlserver group, and spend a good
part of the morning searching for the IBM driver.

DB2 linked server issues

I have a DB2 linked server using DB2OLEDB from MS. the DB2 table does not have journaling enabled, so all of my data creation and update statements are failing when using OpenQuery. Is there a way to get my data mod statements to execute on DB2 without requiring journaling? I have tried using ODBC and setting the Commit Level to none, but it appears that SQL server overrides that setting when connecting through the Linked Server. Any ideas?

Have you tried using

a Control Panel ODBC System DSN entry as your data source? This old school

connection technique fixed my numerous db2 linked server problems. I suspect

there is a bug in the IBM drivers that goes away when you configure the

connection like this.

It should also fix

your settings override problem and give you access to even more settings to tinker

with!

Thanks,
Greg Van Mullem

|||

we have tried using an ODBC DSN as the source for the Linked Server, but it still has the same problems. Somehow SQL Server seems to force the "transaction log/journaling" upon the ODBC source as well.

|||If you are running the Developer or Enterprise Edition

of SQL Server you could try this feature pack download from Microsoft.

Unfortunately, it does not work with SQL Standard Edition so I have not

been able to try it.

DB2 Linked Server

I have setup a linked DB2 server and i c the table/view list in EM>Security. But in QA when i run

select * from servername.catalog.user.tablename

i get the following error msg:

Server: Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
OLE DB provider 'MSDASQL' reported an error. The provider does not support the necessary method.
[OLE/DB provider returned message: Method is not supported by this provider.]
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'MSDASQL' IDBSchemaRowset::GetRowset returned 0x80040e53: The provider does not support the necessary method.].

Any way to solve this? What OLE DB Provider are you using? I have had no luck with the standard ones provided by IBM; I have heard of others who have used 3rd party drivers with great success.

I have installed the right drivers for DB2 etc.

What other 3rd party tools would be helpful? any ideas?

thx|||Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I had to dig through my e-mails to find the link. Go to www.hitsw.com. On their home page, look in the middle third for a link to "SQL Middleware".

I have not used their products, but a friend of mine has. He demonstrated the capability to link a DB2 server using the OLE DB provider from Hit Software.

I hope this helps.

db owner

My customer upsized his Access database tables. Then we linked the Access
front end to the SQL server. But instead of seeing the tables named
dbo_Customer and dbo_Orders we are seeing timothyl_Customer and
timothyl_Orders.
Obviously, he was not a member of the system administrators when he created
the tables, so he is the owner. But now my stored procedures, etc., which
refer to dbo.Customer do not work!
How can I fix this so that I can get back to dbo.filename?COnsider using SP_Changeobjectowner to change the owner of the objects.

db owner

My customer upsized his Access database tables. Then we linked the Access
front end to the SQL server. But instead of seeing the tables named
dbo_Customer and dbo_Orders we are seeing timothyl_Customer and
timothyl_Orders.
Obviously, he was not a member of the system administrators when he created
the tables, so he is the owner. But now my stored procedures, etc., which
refer to dbo.Customer do not work!
How can I fix this so that I can get back to dbo.filename?
COnsider using SP_Changeobjectowner to change the owner of the objects.

|||Would you agree that the syntax should read
exec sp_changeobjectowner 'timothyl.customer', 'sa'
I assume that the owner 'sa' (the built in administrator) is the proper
owner?
Viele dank.

No, it should read exec sp_changeobjectowner 'timothyl.customer', 'dbo'
